Introduction to Module 6 – In-depth understanding of various types of LGBTQ+ people
Welcome to this training module dedicated to exploring the diversity of identities within the LGBTQ+ community. Beyond the most known categories such as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, we will explore a plurality of sexual orientations, gender identities, and lifestyles.
From lesbians to gays, through to bisexuals, transgender people, queers, intersex, asexual, non-binary, or pansexual individuals, each group has its own history, issues, and resources. We will see how these identities have asserted themselves and organized to fight against discrimination and celebrate their pride.
We will also discuss the specific challenges encountered by these communities, such as invisibility, prejudices, violence, or obstacles in access to rights and health. Faced with these difficulties, we will underline the crucial role of associations, safe spaces, and community events in creating ties and making claims.
As an LGBTQ+ coach, it is essential to understand this diversity to adopt an inclusive and compassionate stance. This requires deconstructing one’s prejudices, mastering appropriate vocabulary, and knowing the resources to which to refer people according to their needs.
The aim of this module is to give you keys to understanding and support to allow each LGBTQ+ person, regardless of their identity, to accept, assert and flourish in respect for their singularity.
